Get the most out of your AdWords
The Miami Herald reported on Wednesday that, “small businesses,
nonprofits and website publishers in Florida generated almost $3.2 billion
worth of economic activity last year by using Google as an advertiser,
according to a report released by the search engine on Tuesday.”
Google AdWords is an advertising program that allows
companies to pay for the right to become a ``sponsored link' that shows up in
highlighted text above search engine results.
This report is Google's first attempt at estimating the
economic impact on the world wide web. The "cost-per-click' theory assumes
businesses make an average of $2 in revenue for every $1 dollar they spend on
AdWords.
The report also assumes that companies receive five clicks on
average on search results for every one click on their ads. Through a nifty formula based on that, as well as
incorporating the value of search engine versus paid AdWords clicks, “Google
estimated that for every $1 a business spent on AdWords, it received $8 worth
of profit.”
In fact, according to the Miami Herald, “Florida
ranked fifth-largest in the country for the size of its economic impact, which
Google estimated as $54 billion for the United States. In a conference call with reporters, Google Vice President
Claire Hughes Johnson described AdWords as the equivalent to having a
storefront on the busiest corner of the world.”
Aimee Vignola, spokeswoman for Food for the Poor, an
international relief charity in Coconut Creek has received more than 80,000 clicks since
May 2009, to its website directly from free AdWords -- which she said accounted
for about 13 percent of overall visits to the site.
